Leading the firm’s aviation practice is William J. Joyce, who is Board Certified by the Florida Bar in Aviation Law. After retiring from the United States Navy in 1988 as a Naval Aviator and Surface Warfare Officer, Mr. Joyce joined Jones Walker, where his practice is predominantly related to aviation and maritime matters. He is a commercial pilot, helicopter and fixed-wing with instrument rating. He has over 35 years of experience in aircraft operation and maintenance.

Jones Walker’s aviation legal professionals represent manufacturers of aircraft, aircraft engines, aircraft components parts, and airlines, charter operators, corporate and individual owners of aircraft, as well as airport (public and private) and fixed-base facility operators in casualty, property damage, regulatory, and transaction matters. Our aviation legal professionals also handle complex litigation, ADR, and transactions encompassing the following areas of concentration.

Areas of Concentration

Air Cargo

We advise and interpret the applicability of specific tariffs; review air shipment contracts; and handle claims for cargo delay, damage, and loss claims for cargo and carriers.

Insurance

We assist with coverage opinions, recommendations, and negotiations with insurers for manufacturers, aircraft owners, and operators, as well as providing coverage interpretation for underwriters.

Regulatory

We provide advice to clients in Part 135 and Part 91 aircraft operations; advise aircraft and component manufacturers in accordance with applicable FARS; NTSB accident investigations; advise pilots, mechanics, and repair facilities regarding FAA certificate enforcement actions as well as the formulation and implementatin of ethics and compliance programs.

Aircraft Financing

We complete due diligence, including aircraft and engine mechanical surveys, preparation of documentation for the purchase, sale, lease, and registration of aircraft, as well as financial documents, recordation of instruments with the FAA.

Aircraft Charter & Leasing

We draft charter agreements, time share agreements, fractional ownership documents, and facility; interpret charter agreements and leases to facilitate compliance and/or termination; and review all agreements for compliance with applicable FARs.
